Snowshoe Tour through Yukon Wilderness

Equinox Adventures

Capture picturesque moments along the snow-covered trails, explore a frozen waterfall, and enjoy hot tea.

Overview

On this fully guided tour, we snowshoe through a winter wonderland to a frozen waterfall. Along the way, we experience the beauty of the Yukon's wilderness and learn about the plants and animals of the Boreal forest. At the waterfall site, there is time for exploring, watching ice climbers(!), and enjoying snacks and hot tea around the campfire.

The day begins at the Mt Sima Ski Lodge where you will meet your friendly guide and select your snowshoes for the day.

Once we are packed and ready, we will travel to the trailhead, a one hour drive along the famed Alaska Highway.

At the trail head, we put on our snowshoes and begin our trek through the beautiful Boreal forest, stopping to take photos and learning about local plants and animals along the way.

The hike is moderate difficulty, with some elevation gain near the end. There are plenty of opportunities for rests and refreshments, including our special Equinox winter tea that will both warm and energize you.

The trail brings us to a beautiful frozen waterfall. Take photos and explore the caves and crevices that are created when the ice forms.

At the waterfall site, we will gather around a cozy campfire and enjoy snacks and hot drinks. And of course, more stories.

Note: we also offer an Ice Climbing tour in the same location. You may be lucky enough to be at the site while other adventurers are climbing the frozen waterfall!

We return the way we came, with new memories and stories to tell.

Unique and Fantastic Experience

We had the pleasure to take part in the Equinox ice wall climb and zip line excursion and it was one of our best experiences while visiting Whitehorse. They wall is right next to the Takhini Hot Springs. Our guide that day was Chris who is the owner and he was amazing. Very helpful and extremely friendly. We felt safe in everything we did.
The ice wall climb can be challenging but Chris sets you up for success. In between climbs he had warm tea for us to enjoy as we relaxed. He was very informative about not only ice wall climbing but with any other questions we had about the area. After we were done we went down the zip line across the frozen lake. The view over the lake is pretty amazing and when you zip line down it you get a great rush.
Again this was a great part of our trip and we felt like we did something that we would be able to do few other places.
Highly Recommended!

I first climbed with Equinox three years ago when I signed up for a private Intro to Ice Climbing class at the ice tower as something fun to do on a Yukon holiday. I've returned each winter since, bringing friends to climb the ice towers and hiring Chris as a private guide for back country ice climbing. They offer great instruction for kids and adults and there are several beautiful local ice climbing areas for day trips. They have rental equipment available.

Great experience in Yukon!

We spent 3 hours ice climbing. First time for all of us. Equinox team is very professional and friendly. We spent a very good time climbing with them and learning about their passion. I would go back again for sure!

Great time for Families!

Just spent and excellent afternoon with Equinox climbing the towers at Mt. Sima, Whitehorse. We were three kids ages 10, 12, and 15. Adults had a hoot watching, this time. Kids were all busy doing something for the whole two hours. A great introduction to ice climbing and ziplining!
