A four-day, three-night trip that gives you a great taste of all the fun things to do in the Yukon winter.
Day 1: Arrival Day
We will pick you up at a hotel or the Whitehorse airport. The pick-up time will be any time of the afternoon of the first day. From there it will take us about 25 minutes to reach Muktuk Lodge.
Guests will check into their rooms and receive an introduction to our lifestyle with the dogs. We'll also go over winter clothing needs and supply you with any required extra gear.
You're then free to explore the dog yard and the surrounding property till dinner is served at 6 pm. After dinner, you can relax in our common rooms, enjoy the privacy of your bedroom or cabin, or dress up in the warm winter clothing we provide and wait outside in hope for the northern lights.
Day 2: Dog sledding and Wildlife Preserve
After a nice hearty breakfast, it is time to prepare our dog teams for a fun ride. You will learn how to harness your team as well as how to put booties on your dogs. Your guide will give you a brief instruction on how to handle a sled and off we go for a two-hour ride through the frozen Yukon wilderness. Back at the lodge, you are invited to help take care of your team, before enjoying a hot chocolate at the fireplace in the lodge.
After lunch at the lodge, we will go to the Yukon Wildlife Preserve. The preserve is a unique wildlife viewing property featuring 13 species of northern Canadian mammals in their natural environment. Encompassing over 700 acres with various natural habitats, the Yukon Wildlife Preserve offers unparalleled wildlife viewing and photo opportunities.
Dinner will be at the Muktuk Lodge. Another night awaits with a chance to hopefully see the aurora.
Day 3: Snowmobiling and Ice Fishing
Today will be a full day of adventures. After a delicious homemade breakfast, we will drive to Fish Lake. There we will leave you in the care of our trusted partner company for the day. In the morning you get to try your luck with ice fishing and in the afternoon, you will be cruising on a snowmobile (shared, 2 guests per snowmobile) exploring the scenic landscape. Lunch will be on the trail. It will be about a 40 minute drive back to the Muktuk Lodge. We can share stories about "the big one that got away" or you can just have a little snooze in anticipation of another delicious homecooked meal.
After dinner, there is one more night ahead to cozy up on our deck and get a chance to see the Yukon sky light up with the aurora.
Day 4: Departure
We will bring you to the airport or a hotel in downtown Whitehorse, depending on your travel arrangements.
