We scaled the small ridge to the west and hiked into the upper canyon. Within an hour, we were surrounded by 500-foot walls of rock on three sides, our green valley lost in another world behind us. We carried on, in search of the narrow pass that would lead us over the mountain and into the wonders of yet another pristine valley wilderness to the North.
